Moreno & Trenchard Grab Preseason National Player Of The Year Honors
December 21, 2021 | Women's Lacrosse
Four athletes earned preseason positional recognition — one attacker, one midfielder, one defender and one goalie. Trenchard was named Preseason Defender of the Year and Moreno was the Preseason Goalie of the Year.
This came one day after the Division I Women's Preseason All-Americas were announced.
Trenchard, Moreno, Jamie Ortega and Ally Mastroianni all were named to the first team for Carolina, with Andie Aldave on the second team and Olivia Dirks on the third team.
Trenchard was named the magazine's Preseason Defender of the Year for the second consecutive year. The magazine's staff wrote:
A returning first-team All-America and last year's Preseason Defender of the Year, Trenchard can mark anyone in the country and limit their impact. She posted 25 ground balls, 17 caused turnovers and 13 draw controls in 2021.

Moreno won National Goalie of the Year honors last year as the Tar Heels won their fifth consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference title and advanced to the NCAA semifinals for the ninth time in the last 12 years. USA Lacrosse Magazine wrote this about the fifth-year senior goalie:
A Tewaaraton Award finalist and the 2021 IWLCA National Goalkeeper of the Year, Moreno is an athletic netminder who saved 54.9 percent of shots last spring. She finished second in the nation with a career-best 6.65 goals against average and is an emotional leader for a hungry North Carolina team.
