December 21, 2021 | Women's Lacrosse
CHAPEL HILL—Six University of North Carolina women's lacrosse players earned Preseason All-America honors from USA Lacrosse Magazine on Tuesday.
UNC's six preseason USA Lacrosse All-Americas are the most of any school in the nation.
Four of the six were first-team honorees, as the Tar Heels placed a player at each position on the first team (attack, midfield, defense, goalie). Two transfers who are new to the Carolina program this season also picked up accolades.
Senior attacker Jamie Ortega, senior midfielder Ally Mastroianni, senior defender Emma Trenchard and senior goalie Taylor Moreno all snared first-team honors. All four earned consensus first-team All-America honors in 2021 in leading Carolina to the NCAA semifinals for the ninth time in the last 12 years and its fifth consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference championship.
Midfielder Andie Aldave, a graduate student transfer from Notre Dame, picked up second-team honors. Midfielder Olivia Dirks, a junior transfer from Penn State, was on the third team.
