Chapel Hill Native Attends Cary Christian
Luke Edwards, a senior at Cary Christian School, has accepted an offer of admission to attend the University of North Carolina and committed to play on the men's golf team, Tar Heel head coach Andrew DiBitetto announced today.
Edwards finished second in the North Carolina Independent Schools state championship in 2017 and 2019. He is ranked No. 8 in the state, won conference player of the year honors, is a two-time all-conference selection and two-time AJGA Junior Scholastic All-America.
"Luke has many characteristics that we stand for as a program," says DiBitetto. "He is an athlete who plays golf and an amazing young man. He's also a leader and someone who is passionate about being a great teammate through relationships, honesty and lifting up those around him. Luke is confident, eager to learn and has a burning desire to improve each day. Coach (Matt) Clark and I are excited that Luke will be joining the Carolina Golf family."
The Chapel Hill native has two top-10 finishes in AJGA events, including second place in the AJGA Preview at Carolina Trace. He shot a 7-under 65 last June to win the AJGA Wyndham Sedgefield Qualifier at Holly Ridge Golf Links in Archdale, N.C.
"Growing up a Tar Heel definitely made my decision to attend Carolina a little bit easier," says Edwards. "However, I chose UNC because of the people that surround the golf family and the opportunity it offers to win and play at the highest level. Coach DiBitetto and Coach Clark have truly built something special and unique with this team and I am proud to become a part of it."
Edwards' home course is the Governors Club. He plays for Coach Paul Brewer at Cary Christian, where he is also president of the senior class, member of the student council and Dean's List student.
