UNC Set To Fence Sunday At Temple
February 20, 2021 | Fencing
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – North Carolina will compete at the Temple Invitational on Sunday in a late – and fortuitous – addition to the 2021 fencing schedule.
"They had an opening and asked if we could join," UNC coach Matt Jednak said. "After working with our administration and Temple's administration, we worked it out and feel really fortunate we can compete this weekend."
The Carolina men's and women's teams will fence three meets each on Sunday at Temple Pavilion. Both will take on St. John's and Penn State, then the women will face host Temple (which fields only a women's varsity team) and the men will take on New Jersey Institute of Technology.
Round 1 (against St. John's) begins at 10 a.m., with Round 2 (Penn State) at 11:30 a.m. After a lunchtime break, Round 3 (Temple, NJIT) starts at 1:30 p.m.
Temple will offer a live stream of strips 1 and 2. Click here to watch.
Next up for the Tar Heels is the 2021 Atlantic Coast Conference Championship, which they'll host at Carmichael Arena in Chapel Hill on Feb. 27 and 28.
"This weekend is a great opportunity for us to get more experience and a tune-up before ACCs," Jednak said.
