Educate and Activate: Supporting Local Businesses
February 24, 2021 | Women's Basketball
Throughout the 2020-21 campaign, the UNC women's basketball team will highlight various causes, dedicating the season to advocating for and bringing awareness to issues that are near and dear to the Tar Heel student-athletes and coaching staff.
Â
UNC takes on Georgia Tech this Thursday and Virginia Tech this Sunday, and the team has dedicated the games to raising awareness of the importance of supporting small, local businesses.
Chapel Hill is a vibrant community and a great place to live and go to school. Part of what makes it special, a place known as one of the nation's best college town,s is the variety of unique local businesses and restaurants.
Our community has lost nearly 50 local businesses during this pandemic and many that are surviving are barely holding on. It's important to know that 67 cents of every dollar you spend at a local business stays in our community.
Â
A great resource is to visit is the DowntownChapelHill.com website, which gives contact information for local restaurants and also tells whether the restaurant is offering dine in, carry out and/or delivery.
Â
This week, we supported local small businesses by ordering all of our team meals from local restaurants.
You can help by being mindful of where you spend your dollars. We can all make a difference by shopping local and supporting local restaurants. When we spend it here, we keep it here, so keep it local!
The following organizations offer opportunities to learn more and make an impact:
• Carolina Chamber of Commerce
• Experience Downtown Chapel Hill
• Shop Small by American Express
• Small Business Saturday
Together we can support our community by shopping local!Â
