Softball Blanks Notre Dame in Series Opener
March 12, 2021 | Softball
CHAPEL HILL – Led by the bat of Kristina Burkhardt and lights-out pitching by Brittany Pickett, North Carolina shut out Notre Dame, 6-0 on Friday night at Anderson Stadium.
Although the Fighting Irish threatened early with Abby Sweet in scoring position at third, the Tar Heels steadied their defense to hold Notre Dame off the board. Carolina capitalized on its momentum to plate two runs in the first and continually build to a 6-0 lead by the fifth inning.
Burkhardt went 4-for-4 at the plate with a pair of triples and three runs scored. Pickett had an efficient night in the circle, throwing a mere 66 pitches in her ninth complete game of the season.
Carolina improves to 9-6 overall, 5-1 in ACC play while Notre Dame falls to 7-6, 1-4 in conference. The series continues with a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Game one will be streamed on ACCNX and game two be live on the ACC Network.
