Culton Named Gymnast of the Week

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – After a stand-out performance against William & Mary in the Tar Heels' final home meet of the season, sophomore Elizabeth Culton earned her second EAGL award of the 2021 season. Culton's impressive career-high all-around score of 39.500 earned her the title of Gymnast of the Week in the final week of EAGL regular season competition.
In the meet against William & Mary on Saturday, Culton earned first place in four out of five competitions that took place during the meet. Along with posting a new career-high in the all-around competition, Culton also tied her personal best on beam (9.950) and floor exercise (9.900) to land herself in first place for all three events.
Culton's score of 9.850 on uneven bars also landed her a first-place podium finish. While Culton additionally posted a new career-high on vault with a score of 9.800, it was the fourth-highest score of the meet.
Culton is currently ranked first in the conference on beam, and is tied for fifth in the nation after spending the first three weeks of the season as No. 1 in the country on the event. In addition to her top-scoring beam scores, Culton is ranked No. 8 in the EAGL on bars and is tied for No. 9 in the conference on floor exercise.
Culton's consistently high scores on beam have helped North Carolina earn the No. 1 beam ranking in the EAGL Conference, and a ranking of 30 nationally.
