Zarate Shines As Tar Heels Fall 10-3 To Boston College

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Angel Zarate recorded his first three-hit game of the season in No. 14 North Carolina's (11-6, 7-4) 10-3 loss at No. 21 Boston College (11-6, 3-5) on Saturday afternoon.
Zarate finished 3-for-5 with an RBI and a double, while reaching base for the 37th-straight game.
Boston College jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning after a sacrifice fly and an RBI groundout.
The Eagles extended their lead to 3-0 in the third frame with a solo home run.
A North Carolina batter reached base in the first five innings but none with less than one out.
North Carolina was able to get on the board in the fifth inning when Zarate belted an RBI double down the line to cut the to 3-1.
Tyler Causey became the Tar Heel's first lead-off batter on base in the seventh inning with a single to left field but was stranded at second after advancing on a single from Zarate.
Boston College scored seven runs on four hits in the seventh inning to take a 10-1 lead. Caleb Cozart, Davis Palermo and Kyle Mott combined to issue five walks in the bottom of the frame.
Never backing down, the Tar Heels chipped away at Boston College's lead with a two-run eighth inning. Eric Grintz and Jake Holtzapple each recorded pinch-hit RBIs to cut the advantage to 10-3.
The Tar Heels could not get any closer and fell by seven, 10-3.
Max Carlson started the game for the Tar Heels on the mound and pitched 4.1 innings. He struck out a pair and surrendered three runs, six hits and a walk.
The Tar Heels have a chance to win their third ACC series of the season tomorrow at 1 p.m.
