Softball Drops Weekend Finale to No. 17 South Carolina

CHAPEL HILL – Despite eight strikeouts by Brittany Pickett, North Carolina fell 8-1 to No. 17 South Carolina on Sunday afternoon to wrap up the Carolina Classic.
South Carolina scored five runs in the first inning to set the tone early. Although Kiersten Licea hit a sac-fly for her third RBI of the weekend, the Gamecocks maintained the lead for an 8-1 win to wrap up the Carolina Classic.
Bri Stubbs hit 3-for-3 to total six hits for the tournament. Kayla Baptista, UNC's leadoff, drew four walks on the day and scored the lone run. Pickett tossed her third complete game of the weekend.
Going 2-1 with 33 strikeouts on the weekend, Pickett was named to the Carolina Classic all-tournament team. Both finishing the weekend 3-1, South Carolina improves to 12-3 while the Tar Heels fall to 8-6.
Up next, the Tar Heels resume ACC play vs. Notre Dame Friday through Sunday at Anderson Stadium.
