Duke broke through with the first score on Saturday, hitting a two-run home run in the top of the fifth to extend their lead to 4-0. The Tar Heels attempted to counter the Blue Devils' runs in the bottom of the fifth, with Dallas Tessar and Mac Horvath hitting back-to-back singles to center field, but Carolina was unable to capitalize.
Danny Serretti's double in the sixth was another effort to spark the Tar Heel offense, but Carolina left the inning scoreless.

The Tar Heels maintained their momentum in the bottom of the ninth, starting off the inning with Jake Holtzapple's single. The late game push was not sufficient for the Heels to pull off the win.
