Seven Tar Heels Earn All-America Honors

North Carolina led all schools with seven honorees as the USA Lacrosse Magazine All-America men's lacrosse teams were announced Tuesday afternoon. Senior Chris Gray, who in Saturday's first-round NCAA Tournament game set the UNC program record for points in a season, was named to the first team.
Tanner Cook, William Perry, Will Bowen and Connor Maher were named to the second team, and Justin Anderson and Matt Wright earned honorable mention.

UNC (12-2) faces Rutgers Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in an NCAA Quarterfinals game that will be hosted by Hofstra in Hempstead, N.Y.
Gray, an attackman from Wading River, N.Y., is the 2021 Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Year and ranks second nationally in points per game with 5.93. He was announced last week as a finalist for the Tewaaraton Award.
Cook, a senior midfielder from Courtice, Ontario, has 22 goals and nine assists this season.
Perry, a fifth-year midfielder from Greenwich, Conn., ranks second on the team in goals with 28 and is tied for second in points. He leads the team in man-up goals with five.
Bowen, a junior defender from Cohasset, Mass., leads UNC in caused turnovers with 25 on the year. He was also announced on Tuesday as one of the recipients of UNC's Top 10 Scholar-Athlete Award.
Maher, a junior short stick defensive midfielder from Timonium, Md., is tied for the team lead in ground balls with 58 and scored one of the team's six man-down goals this season.
Anderson, a fifth-year midfielder from Las Vegas, has 22 goals and six assists this season. Along with Gray and Perry, he is part of the team's five-man captains group.
Wright, a sophomore long-stick defensive midfielder from Calgary, Alberta, has 45 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers this season. He joined Anderson, Bowen, Gray and Maher in earning All-ACC honors this spring.
Also announced recently were the Inside Lacrosse Media All-America honors. Gray and Bowen were named to the first team; Cook, Perry and Maher to the second; and Anderson, Wright and freshman goalkeeper Collin Krieg to the honorable mention list.
