Top Storylines
• North Carolina is coming off a one-win weekend against Georgia Tech to finish the regular season.
• With a hit in all three games against GT (including 2 HR), Johnny Castagnozzi extended his hitting streak to six games. He's also now recorded a hit in nine of his last 10 games, a period in which he's slashing .375/.429/.667.
• North Carolina checks in at No. 45 in nonconference RPI and No. 15 in nonconference strength of schedule, which is first among Power 5 teams, according to WarrenNolan.com.
• Austin Love's performance against Louisville Friday night was the first complete game by a Tar Heel since Rodney Hutchison threw one against North Carolina A&T on March 13, 2018. Additionally, it was the first against an ACC opponent since Zac Gallen blanked Virginia Tech on April 8, 2016.
• Love tossed his second complete game of the season on Thursday against Georgia Tech. He struck out 15 and did not record a walk. The strikeouts were the most by a Tar Heel since Gianluca Dalatri had 15 against Radford on Feb. 26, 2017. They were the most by a UNC pitcher against an ACC opponent since Matt Harvey had 15 at Clemson on April 23, 2010.
• Love's 89.2 innings pitched lead the ACC and rank second among pitchers in Power 5 baseball. He has also recorded 111, which is fifth in the ACC.
• UNC junior Joey Lancellotti will miss the rest of the 2021 baseball season after undergoing Tommy John surgery last week. Lancellotti made four appearances for the Tar Heels this season with an ERA of 2.45.
• The Tar Heels check in fourth in the ACC and rank 26th in the country in home runs with 64.
• Scott Forbes is the only first-year head coach among Power 5 conference programs in 2021.
