Wiltrout's Record Leads Tar Heels At Duke Twilight

DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina collected standout performances Monday in its final tune-up before the Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 13-15. Competing at the Duke Twilight Meet, senior Madison Wiltrout set a meet record and bettered her school record with a personal-best throw of 183-1 (55.80m).
Wiltrout's win was one of five for the Tar Heel throwers. Senior Daniel McArthur had an outdoor PR in men's shot put, breaking his own facility record with a throw of 19.11m (62-8 ½) to take first place.
Junior James Joycey won his second men's hammer title in a row with a throw of 67.05m. Teammate Troy Yearwood was third in 57.80m.
Freshman JoEllen Driscoll won the women's discuss with a throw of 48.79m (160-1), more than seven meters farther than her previous best.
The Tar Heels made it a javelin sweep with junior Roman Mitchell winning the men's title with a throw of 66.08m (216-9).
Senior Emerson Porter won the women's pole vault with a personal-best height of 13-5.25. Junior Alex Potts took fourth and also had a personal best with a height of 12-7.5.
Fifth-year Draven Crist won the men's high jump with a height of 2.08m (6-9 ¾).
Grad student Alex Milligan won the men's steeplechase in a personal best time of 8:51.65, the sixth-fastest time in school history.
