June 10, 2021 | Women's Lacrosse
CHAPEL HILL—North Carolina senior Taylor Moreno picked up the 2021 National Goalkeeper of the Year award from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association, the IWLCA announced on Thursday.
Moreno finished second in the nation in goals against average (6.65) and save percentage (.549) and led her team to the ACC championship and the NCAA Semifinals. The 2021 ACC Defender of the Year, Moreno was a Tewaaraton Award finalist, and also named a finalist for the 2021 Honda Award for women's lacrosse. Moreno is a two-time ACC Tournament MVP and was an IWLCA All-America in 2019. She ranks second all-time at UNC in wins with a career record of 48-6 and has announced she will return to Carolina for the 2022 season.
Moreno becomes the fourth Tar Heel to win a National Goalkeeper of the Year award, joining Logan Ripley (2009), Caylee Waters (2015, 2016 co-winner) and Megan Ward (2016 co-winner).
The IWLCA named four All-Americas from each Division as positional Players of the Year. Each Division's selection committee has also chosen one of the positional honorees as the Player of the Year for each Division.Â
