Crawley Reaches Semifinals At ITA Fall Nats

SAN DIEGO - Top seed Fiona Crawley continued her winning ways on Friday with a straight-set victory to reach the main draw singles semifinals at the 2022 ITA Fall National Championships from Barnes Tennis Center. Crawley and Carson Tanguilig were also victorious in their quarterfinals doubles match in another busy day of action for the North Carolina women's tennis program.

Crawley has yet to drop a set in three matches this week. Friday it was 6-3, 6-3, victory over No. 58 Mary Stoiana of Texas A&M. The San Antonio native will face ACC foe Carol Lee of Georgia Tech on Saturday with the winner advancing to Sunday's championship match.

At the other end of the bracket, Carolina's Abbey Forbes and Carson Tanguilig were upended in their quarterfinal matches against Princeton's No. 3 Daria Frayman and Stanford's second seeded Connie Ma, respectively.

In the singles consolation bracket, Anika Yarlagadda cruised past UCLA's Kimmi Hance, 6-0, 6-2, and will now take on Marlee Zein of Texas in a semifinals match on Saturday.

In doubles, No. 2 seed Crawley and Tanguilig picked up a 6-4, 6-4, victory over Delaware's Adel-Byanu Abidullina and Eliza Askarova on Friday evening. Next up is Virginia's Elaine Chervinsky and Natasha Subhash in the semifinals.

Crawley is now two wins shy of adding her name to an impressive list of previous winners from Carolina's program. Jamie Loeb was the first to capture the singles championship back in 2013 and was later joined in consecutive seasons by title winners Sara Daavettila in 2019 and Alexa Graham in 2020.

Hayley Carter and Whitney Kay won the doubles event in 2015 and last fall Crawley and Elizabeth Scotty brought the trophy back to Chapel Hill in 2021.
