CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of North Carolina gymnastics team, last year's East Atlantic Gymnastics League regular season champion, has been picked to finish first in the 2023 EAGL preseason poll. The conference released the rankings Tuesday morning in anticipation of the upcoming season.
"Last year, we were excited to earn Carolina Gymnastics' first regular season EAGL championship after going 7-0 in conference competition, and our program's first EAGL championship since 2011," said head coach Danna Durante. "It's an honor to be ranked No. 1 in the preseason, as this conference is full of talented teams and extraordinary athletes and we look forward to the challenge ahead we will face each week."
The preseason poll is based on projections given by the head coaches of the eight EAGL schools. The Tar Heels sit atop the poll with 48 points and one first-place vote, just ahead of NC State and Temple which tied for second behind 46 points and one top vote apiece.Â
