Baseball Welcomes Seton Hall To Open The 2022 Season

CHAPEL HILL – North Carolina welcomes Big East Conference foe Seton Hall to Boshamer Stadium to open the 2022 season this weekend. Opening day is Friday, Feb. 18, with the first pitch scheduled for be thrown at approximately 4 p.m. Game two is slated for Saturday, Feb. 19, at 2 p.m. and the series finale Sunday, Feb. 20, at 1 p.m. All three games of the season opening series will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra.
The Tar Heels will be looking for fifth consecutive opening day win Friday against their most common opening day opponent. UNC and Seton Hall will be going head-to-head to start the season for the seventh time with Carolina having won each of the six previous opening day games.
This will be the first time the Diamond Heels and Pirates have opened the season against one another since 2015.
Carolina has a record of 58-11 against Seton Hall dating back to the first meeting between the East Coast foes in 1988. The Pirates won the first meeting in the series before the Diamond Heels won 11 games in a row.
Since losing two of three to Seton Hall to open the 2002 campaign, the Tar Heels have won 25 of the past 26 games in the series.
Charged with continuing the Heels' opening day streaks is junior left-handed pitcher Brandon Schaeffer, who will make his Carolina debut on Friday. Schaeffer spent the previous three seasons at WVU Potomac State College, where he compiled a 14-3 record with a 1.88 ERA and struck out 169 batters in 112.2 innings pitched. The last pitcher to make his UNC debut as the opening day starter was Ryan Snare as a freshman in 1998.
Sophomore right-handed pitcher Max Carlson will get the ball on Saturday, while Coastal Carolina transfer Shaddon Peavyhouse will be on the Mound Sunday.
SCOUTING SETON HALL

Seton Hall is coming off of a 2021 campaign where it went 16-11 in the BIG EAST ... The Pirates are led by sophomore Will Gale, was arguably Seton Hall's top performer against BIG EAST teams last season in getting on base, stealing bases and hitting for average ...
