Baseball Hosts Elon In Midweek Game

CHAPEL HILL – North Carolina continues its season opening six-game homestand Tuesday afternoon against Elon. The first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
The Diamond Heels are coming off a three-game sweep of Seton Hall over the weekend, outscoring the Pirates by a combined score of 40-6. Fourteen of their 38 hits during the series were for extra bases, including six home runs.
Half of those home runs belonged to freshman Vance Honeycutt, who homered in his first official at bat.
Shortstop Danny Serretti and first baseman Johnny Castagnozzi each collected seven hits over the weekend and was the only player to have multiple hits in all three games.
The Carolina bullpen allowed just two runs in 13.1 innings of work with 18 strikeouts and three walks. Davis Palermo and Shawn Rapp each earned a win in relief. Rapp fanned six batters in 3.1 innings of relief.
Sophomore Will Sandy will get the start on the mound for the Diamond Heels on Tuesday. It'll be his 17th career start and first since April 18, 2021 at Pittsburgh. The lefty started against Elon las season and earned the victory by holding the Phoenix scoreless in five innings, allowing just one hit, and striking out six.
Sandy will be opposed by Elon right-handed pitcher Ian Evans. He pitched two innings this past weekend against Fairfield giving up one run on two hits with a strikeout and walk.
Carolina has won 14 in a row against the Phoenix dating back to 2010. The Tar Heels are 39-9 all-time against Elon.
