Nalls Becomes Seventh Tar Heel On Tewaaraton Watch List
March 10, 2022 | Women's Lacrosse
CHAPEL HILL—Emily Nalls is Carolina's seventh member of the Tewaaraton Award Watch List. Nalls, a junior defender, is one of 13 players nationally added to the initial watch list and now eligible for the highest individual honor in the sport.
Six Tar Heels were named to the initial watch lists released in February, most of any school in the nation. That sextet includes Olivia Dirks, Ally Mastroianni, Taylor Moreno, Jamie Ortega, Emma Trenchard and Caitlyn Wurzburger.
"We've seen an exciting, action-packed start to the 2022 season. These players have distinguished themselves and earned their way onto our 2022 Watch Lists," said Andy Phillips, President of the Tewaaraton Foundation. "The Tewaaraton Foundation would like to congratulate these players on their outstanding play thus far, and we wish them and their teams the best of luck for the rest of this season."
The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are comprised of premier college coaches and are appointed annually by the Tewaaraton Foundation.

Players not named to the initial lists (announced Feb. 10) still have several opportunities to play their way into a spot as the season progresses. The next round of additions will be announced on April 1. On April 21, the field will be narrowed to 25 nominees. Nominees can be players on the watch lists or players not on the watch lists, effectively allowing for a third round of additions.
Five women's finalists will be announced in early May and will be invited to the Tewaaraton Award Ceremony in Washington, D.C., on June 2. Tar Heels Moreno and Ortega were both among the five finalists in 2021.
