• Carolina, the No. 3 seed in the ACC Tournament, plays No. 7 seed Virginia Tech in the semifinals at 9:30 p.m. tonight in Brooklyn (ESPN).
• Carolina defeated Virginia, 63-43, in the quarterfinals, while the Hokies beat Clemson, 76-75, in overtime in the second round and No. 2 seed Notre Dame, 87-80, last evening.
• UNC defeated the Hokies twice this season – 78-68 in Chapel Hill on January 24 and 65-57 in Blacksburg on February 19.Â
• Last season, the sixth-seeded Tar Heels beat the No. 3 Hokies, 81-73, in the quarterfinals in Greensboro. The teams met in the ACC Tournament after not having played during the regular season due to Covid. It was the first time UNC ever played a team in the ACC Tournament it didn't play in the regular season.
• This is the first time UNC and Virginia Tech are playing for the third time in a season since UNC swept all three games in 1947-48, including a win at (then known as) Duke Indoor Stadium in Durham in the Southern Conference Tournament.
• The last time Carolina beat a team three times in a season was Maryland in 2012-13.
• The Tar Heels have won 12 of their last 14 games and are 24-8 overall. UNC has won six straight, its longest win streak of the season.Â

• Carolina has won 20 or more games for the 62nd time (first time since going 29-7 in 2018-19). A win in the ACC semifinals would extend Carolina's NCAA record for 25-win seasons to 39.
• Carolina's 13-point win at Duke on March 5 marked the second time in UNC history the Tar Heels were beaten at home by 20-plus points then defeated the same opponent on their home court by double digits. Duke defeated UNC, 87-67, in Chapel Hill on February 5. In 2019, Louisville beat UNC by 21 at the Smith Center; three weeks later the Tar Heels won by 10 in Louisville.
• NCAA.com named Carolina its National Team of the Week following its wins over Syracuse and Duke.
