WLAX Dominates Hokies, 20-8, To Improve To 11-0

CHAPEL HILL—Six Tar Heels scored multiple goals as the No. 1-ranked University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team beat No. 25 Virginia Tech, 20-8, on Saturday afternoon at Dorrance Field.
The Tar Heels posted their 37th consecutive regular season victory, their 28th in a row at home and their 38th in the last 39 games overall. UNC is 60-6 in its last 66 games against Atlantic Coast Conference opponents (regular season and postseason).
Caitlyn Wurzburger tallied five points on four goals and an assist, adding two ground balls, a caused turnover and a draw control. Scottie Rose Growney scored three first-half goals and finished with three goals and two assists. Ally Mastroianni had four goals and a game-high eight draw controls. Brooklyn Neumen recorded her first career hat trick with three goals on four shots.
The Hokies held Jamie Ortega without a goal in the first half, but she finished with three goals and an assist after a strong second half. Ortega moved into third place in NCAA history in career goals with 300, passing Megan Whittle of Maryland, who scored 298 from 2015-18. Ortega is just the third player in history to tally 300 career goals.
Olivia Dirks added two goals and four draw controls. Livi Lawton, Andie Aldave, Amanda Fedor and Sam Geiersbach each had assists.
Sarah Lubnow led the Hokies with three goals and an assist.
The Tar Heels improved to 11-0 this season, 4-0 in the ACC. Virginia Tech fell to 8-5, 2-3.
Taylor Moreno (11-0) started her 65th career game for UNC and improved to 59-6 in the cage all-time, making three saves and gathering a ground ball in three quarters of work while allowing seven goals. Alecia Nicholas played the final quarter and allowed one goal while making a save.
UNC out-shot the Hokies, 39-26, and won 20 draws to Tech's 12.
The Tar Heels will return to action on Saturday April 2 against Notre Dame in Chapel Hill.
