Softball Powers Past NC State 16-4 To Clinch Weekend Series

The Tar Heels bats were on fire in the victory, with the team recording 13 hits in five innings, averaging .542 at the plate, the highest team batting average since March 17, 2019.
Sophomore Skyler Brooks led the team with a career-best three hits on the day, while Sara Jubas had a team-best five RBIs, just one shy of her career best.
Jubas and Kianna Jones both hit home runs, with Jones recording her third straight game with a home run and her seventh of the season.
In the circle, Lilli Backes (6-9) earned her sixth career victory, throwing all five innings, allowing four earned runs with three strikeouts. She finished the weekend 2-0 against NC State.
The Tar Heels (18-14, 4-4 ACC) took two-of-three games from the Wolfpack (21-12, 3-9 ACC).
Notables
- Carolina's 16 runs are its most since scoring 24 runs against Virginia on March 28, 2015. It is the most runs scored against NC State in series history
- The Tar Heels plated 11 runs in the second inning, which is the second time this season that Carolina has plated double-digit runs in an inning (Last time: 10 runs in the fifth inning against NCA&T on Feb. 23)
- Kianna Jones hit a home run in each game of the series, finishing the weekend batting .545, going 6-of-11 at the plate with eight RBIs, matching a team-best, while slugging 1.636
- Sophomore Kiannah Pierce hit a team-best .636 in the series, going 7-of-11 at the plate with six RBIs and three doubles
- The Tar Heels did not commit an error against the Wolfpack
- Carolina's 16 runs were the most given up by NC State since April 29, 2018
- The Tar Heels had plated 102 runs in the first 29 games of the season. In three games against NC State, Carolina plated a combined 36 runs
- Junior Bri Stubbs drew four walks on the weekend. She now has 23 this season, tied for the third-most in the ACC
- Graduate Sara Jubas had eight RBIs in the series and now has a team-best 27 this season, the sixth-most in the conference
