Geiersbach Named ACC Offensive Player Of The Week
March 8, 2022 | Women's Lacrosse
North Carolina graduate attacker Sam Geiersbach has been named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week, and Notre Dame graduate goalkeeper Bridget Deehan was chosen the Defensive Player of the Week.
Geiersbach, in her first year as a Tar Heel after graduating and transferring from the University of Richmond in 2021, came off the bench and led all scorers with five goals and six points in second-ranked North Carolina's dominant, 20-9 win over sixth-ranked Northwestern on Sunday. The five goals and six points were both season highs for the graduate transfer. She scored three goals in the first half and a pair in the second half.
Deehan recorded a career-best 16 saves to lead Notre Dame to a 12-10 victory against No. 13 Virginia. The Milton, Georgia, native tallied eight saves in each half to log a season high in saves.
Six ACC women's lacrosse teams are ranked in the latest Inside Lacrosse Women/IWLCA poll, with the ACC holding each of the top three spots and six of the top 15 with Boston College (1), Carolina (2), Syracuse (3), Duke (7), Virginia (14) and Notre Dame (15). The ACC has the most teams in the poll among all conferences.
UNC will return to the field to conclude a four-game homestand this weekend with a pair of games at Dorrance Field. UNC will host Mercer on Friday at 5 p.m. and Louisville on Sunday at 1 p.m.
