Shippee, Trainor Pick Up ACC Honors

Two Tar Heels have earned Atlantic Coast Conference weekly honors for track & field, the league announced on Tuesday. Sophomore Sarah Trainor was named Women's Track Performer of the Week and graduate student Jill Shippee shares honors as Women's Field Performer of the Week.

Trainor, from Poughkeepsie, N.Y, won the women's 3000-meter steeplechase at the Duke Invitational last Friday. Her time of 10:09.07 was a personal best and also set a meet record. She now owns the fastest steeplechase time in the ACC this season and the 10th-fastest in the NCAA.

Shippee, from Clifton Park, N.Y., won the women's hammer throw at Duke, also on Friday. Her distance of 68.43m (224-6) led a field of 30 competitors and is the seventh-longest in the NCAA so far this season. She already holds the school record in the event with a throw of 227-9 last season.
