Track & Field Piles Up Strong Performances At Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The North Carolina track and field teams closed out competition at the Tom Jones Invitational on Saturday, building on Friday's strong performance with more PRs. The two-day meet was hosted by the University of Florida at the Gators' Percy Beard Track.
 
Women's hammer kicked off the day and UNC's Jill Shippee took second overall and first among collegiate competitors with a throw of 67.77m (222-4).
 
In the men's 100 meters, Qhiyal Towns placed second in his heat and 20th overall with a personal-best time of 10.32, the second-fastest time in school history.
 
The women's 100 meters saw another Tar Heel PR, with Kayla Hunt winning her heat and finishing 23rd overall in a personal-best time of 11.76. For Hunt it was her second PR in as many events, following the 200m Friday night.
 
In the women's 400 meters, Brianna White turned in a season-best 53.78 to win her heat and place 17th overall.
 
Onyedikachi Ohia-Enyia, Craig Saddler II, Matthew Harris and Jared Williams turned in a season-best 3:09.04 to place third in the 4x400 relay to cap the action.
