Keefer, Shippee, Trainor Earn Wins At Duke

DURHAM, N.C. – Three Tar Heel women took firsts on Friday as the UNC track and field teams competed at the Duke Invitational. With action at Morris Williams Stadium throughout the day, Carolina saw plenty of standout performances and wins by Anna Keefer (long jump), Jill Shippee (hammer) and Sarah Trainor (3000m steeplechase).

Keefer's distance of 6.27m (20-7) gave the senior her first win of the outdoor season. Shippee also picked up her first outdoor win with a hammer distance of 68.43M (224-6) in her season opener.
Trainor's steeplechase time of 10:09.07 was a lifetime best and ranks fourth in program history. Teammate Sasha Neglia was just behind her in 10:11.78 to take third.
Freshmen Carlee Hansen (4:20.32) and Brynn Brown (4:20.74) took third and fourth in the women's 1500 meters, both with PRs.
In the men's 1500, Tar Heels took three of the top 10 spots, with Jesse Hunt third, Patrick Anderson sixth and Jack Aho 10th, and PRs for both Anderson and Aho.
In the men's hammer, James Joycey was fourth overall, first among collegiate competitors. Troy Yearwood was seventh overall, second among collegians, with a new PR of 65.02.
Isaac Young finished second his decathlon debut, totaling 6872 points in competition on Thursday and Friday.
