Softball Evens Louisville Series With 9-5 Victory

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Carolina softball team broke up a five-game losing streak and evened up its weekend series with Louisville on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Cardinals 9-5.
Freshman Carlie Myrtle picked up her second career win in the circle in the complete-game victory, the Tar Heels' first ACC road win of the season. She allowed five earned runs and 11 hits in seven innings of work with three strikeouts.
Destiny Middleton went 3-of-3 from the plate with one RBI and recorded her first triple since March 2. It was her third of the season and sixth in her career.
Taylor Greene tallied her eighth multi-RBI game of the season and second of the weekend with two on the day.
The Tar Heels also recorded four stolen bases, matching their season high.

- To open the game, the first three batters in Carolina's lineup reached to load the bases. Abby Settlemyre then got hit by a pitch to walk in the first run of the game, 1-0
- In the second inning, Carolina plated two runs off two hits, with an RBI double from Bri Stubbs plating Middleton, followed by Stubbs stealing home to make it 3-0
- In the bottom of the second, Louisville hit a two-RBI double to cut the Tar Heels' lead to 3-2
- Carolina added on two more runs in the top of the fourth, with Middleton tripling to left center, plating Alex Brown, before Stubbs plated Middleton with an RBI single to make it 5-2
- The score remained 5-2 until the top of the seventh, when Carolina plated four runs off three hits, making it 9-2
- Louisville wouldn't go down without a fight though, plating three runs off four hits to make the final score 9-5
