North Carolina's Will Coogan has earned Academic All-District honors for men's cross country and track & field, recognizing outstanding academic and athletic performance. The Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced the honor on Thursday, with Coogan one of 10 student-athletes from Division I schools in North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia named to the District 3 team.
Coogan, a biology major from Exeter, N.H., competes for UNC's cross country and track & field teams. He was the NCAA Elite 90 Award winner for men's cross country, the first UNC student-athlete ever to win the honor for that sport.
In cross country, he placed 36th at ACC Championships and 155th at NCAA Championships.
At the recent ACC Outdoor Championships, he placed 12th in the men's 10,000 meters and 19th in the 5,000 meters in a season-best time.
He has been named to the All-ACC Academic Team for men's cross country in both of his seasons at UNC, 2020 and 2021.
District winners are candidates for Academic All-America honors, to be announced in June.
