Maher Earns Academic All-America Honors

CHAPEL HILL – North Carolina men's lacrosse player Connor Maher has earned Academic All-America honors, recognizing outstanding academic and athletic performance during the 2021-22 school year. The honor is awarded by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Maher was part of the Academic All-America at-large teams, which cover the sports of beach volleyball, bowling, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, rowing, skiing, swimming/diving, tennis, men's volleyball, water polo and wrestling. He was named to the men's third team.
Maher was one of three lacrosse players on the 47-member men's list and the only honoree from an ACC men's lacrosse program. A total of four ACC student-athletes were named to the men's teams, with swimming and wrestling also represented.
Maher, a business administration major from Timonium, Md., earned second-team All-America honors for his stellar play as a short-stick defensive midfielder. He also received CoSIDA Academic All-District and All-ACC honors. A team captain and the leader of the Tar Heel defense, he finished the season second on the team in ground balls (43) and caused turnovers (8). He also scored his third career goal against rival Duke in the season's final game.
