July 12, 2022 | Women's Lacrosse
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – All three University of North Carolina products competing for gold at the 2022 World Games led their teams to victory on the opening day of World Lacrosse Sixes in Birmingham, Alabama.
Leading Israel to a 17-10 win over Haudenosaunee was Sammy Jo Tracy ('17), who recorded a hat trick and tallied an assist in her World Games debut. She also had a game-high two draw controls.
Fresh off earning silver at the World Lacrosse Women's World Championship in Towson, Maryland, Brooklyn Walker-Welch was back again to help Canada defeat Great Britain, 16-9, on Tuesday afternoon. The rising sophomore defender registered one ground ball in her first outing in Birmingham.
Like Tracy, Caitlyn Wurzburger also began competition with a hat trick. The soon-to-be junior had three goals and an assist as the U.S. topped Australia, 16-6, in dominant fashion.
Continuing Group B action will be Israel and Canada at 3 p.m. ET on Wednesday for the second day of preliminary play. The U.S. and Japan will go head-to-head tomorrow in Group A for a 4:30 p.m. tilt.
All games are played at PNC Field on the campus of the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

The women's tournament takes place July 12-16 and includes 18 games with teams split into two groups for round-robin preliminary play. At the end of the preliminary round, the top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals with medal games being played on the final day of competition.
Games are broadcast on the Olympic Channel while the semifinals and medal games will be distributed by the World Games via its 24/7 channel at Olympics.com, as well as select international broadcast partners. CBS Sports Network will air a daily highlights package in the U.S.
