The University of North Carolina men's basketball team will begin the 2023-24 season ranked 19th in the preseason Associated Press Top 25, the AP announced on Monday.
Kansas took the top spot in the poll, followed by No. 2 Duke, No. 3 Purdue, No. 4 Michigan State and No. 5 Marquette. Defending NCAA champion Connecticut is sixth, followed by No. 7 Houston, No. 8 Creighton, No. 9 Tennessee and No. 10 Florida Atlantic.
The only other Atlantic Coast Conference team in the poll is No. 13 Miami. Virginia received votes but is unranked.
The Tar Heels are scheduled to play at least seven games during the 2023-24 regular season against members of the AP Preseason Top 25. The challenging slate includes two games each against Duke and Miami, as well as non-conference matchups with No. 6 UConn, No. 9 Tennessee and No. 16 Kentucky.
Other possible opponents include No. 14 Arkansas and No. 22 Villanova in the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas during the week of Thanksgiving.
The Tar Heels will host St. Augustine's in an exhibition game on Friday October 27 before opening the regular season on Monday November 6 against Radford. Single-game tickets for the 2023-24 season are on sale now.
