CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Carolina volleyball team (7-8, 1-5 ACC) fell to Notre Dame in five sets on Sunday afternoon in Carmichael Arena. After the Tar Heels took the first two sets, the Fighting Irish went on to secure the next three sets to close out the match and take the victory.

Graduate outside hitter Emani' Foster and freshman opposite Romani Thurman led the Tar Heels with 13 and 10 kills, respectively, while freshman outside hitter Safi Hampton tallied six kills in the match.

For the first time this season, Carolina held a hitting percentage under .100, with Notre Dame outhitting the Tar Heels .236-.081. On the service line, Carolina tallied 10 aces, the third double-digit performance for the Tar Heels this season, led by junior outside hitter Mabrey Shaffmaster with three.

Sophomore setter Anita Babic ran the offense with 24 assists and eight digs, while sophomore libero Maddy May led Carolina defensively with 14 digs.

The Tar Heels will look to break their five-match losing streak next weekend, starting with a trip to Syracuse on Oct. 13.
