Women’s Soccer Takes On BYU In NCAA Quarterfinals

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The third-seeded North Carolina women's soccer team is set to take on top-seeded Brigham Young in the quarterfinals of the 2023 NCAA Tournament on Friday, Nov. 24, with a spot in the College Cup on the line.  
Kickoff is slated for 8 p.m. ET (6 p.m. MT) at South Field in Provo, Utah. The match will air on ESPN+ with Jarom Jordan and Carla Swensen-Haslam on call.

NCAA Tournament Tidbits
- North Carolina has an all-time record of 147-17-5 in the NCAA Tournament.
 - The Tar Heels are 30-1-2 in the NCAA Elite Eight, out-scoring its quarterfinal opponents 110-24 all-time.
 - UNC extends its streak as the only team to appear in all 42 NCAA Tournaments.
 - Carolina has won 21 of 41 NCAA titles (plus the 1981 AIAW title for 22 national championships).
 - The Tar Heels have appeared in 31 College Cups, including four of the last five.
 - Carolina has advanced to the national title game 27 times (including three of the last five) and has finished as the runner-up six times overall.
 - UNC has been the No. 3 seed twice before, winning the first-ever NCAA women's soccer title in 1982 and advancing to the second round in 2015.
 - Three current Tar Heels – Maycee Bell, Isabel Cox and Julia Dorsey – have been part of three College Cup teams and two runner-up finishes.
 
- This will be the third meeting in program history between UNC and BYU, with Carolina leading the series at 2-0. Both matches were in the NCAA Tournament.
 - The Tar Heels knocked off the Cougars, 3-2, in the third round last year in Chapel Hill. Talia Dellaperuta (1g) and Maddie Dahlien (2g) both scored while Avery Patterson dished out three assists.
 - The last time Carolina was in Provo, Utah, was for the 2012 Elite Eight. Crystal Dunn, who was named National Player of the Year that season, netted the game-winner in double overtime. UNC went on to win the national title.
 - BYU came to Chapel Hill for an exhibition in August 2022 during preseason. UNC won, 2-0, behind goals from Tori Dellaperuta and Patterson.
 - Ally Sentnor currently has six points (2g, 2a) in the NCAA Tournament so far. She has 16 career tournament points (7g, 2a) and is on a six game streak of recording at least one point.
 - Carolina's defense has held 20 of its 22 opponents to 10 shots or less, 10 of those to five or fewer and three to only one this year.
 - So far in the NCAA Tournament, UNC's opponents have only taken a combined 20 shots, and only a combined three shots on goal.
 - Carolina's back line prevented both sixth-seeded Alabama and second-seeded Texas Tech from taking a shot on goal the entire match in its last two NCAA games. UNC also has six games where its opponent has been kept shotless during a half.
 - Cox has played in 109 matches, the most among all active DI players. She now owns the UNC program record for career appearances and is tied for fourth all-time in DI history.
 - Carolina is one of just three schools (joining Clemson and Stanford) that has both teams in the men's Sweet 16 and women's Elite 8 rounds of the NCAA Tournament.
