Women’s Soccer Begins Quest For 23rd National Title Friday

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Earning a third seed in the 2023 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Tournament, North Carolina begins its quest for the 23rd national title in program history on Friday, Nov. 10, by hosting Towson in the first round in Chapel Hill.
Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. ET at Dorrance Field. The game will broadcast on ESPN+ with Kyle Straub on the call, and tickets are available for purchase here.

NCAA Tournament Tidbits
- UNC extends its streak as the only program to appear in all 42 NCAA Tournaments.
- Carolina has won 21 of 41 NCAA titles (plus the 1981 AIAW title for 22 national championships).
- No other team has more than three NCAA women's soccer titles.
- North Carolina has an all-time record of 144-17-5 in the NCAA Tournament.
- The Tar Heels are 23-1 in the NCAA First Round, out-scoring its first-round opponents 99-5.
- The Tar Heels have appeared in 31 College Cups, including four of the last five.
- No other program has more than 13 College Cup appearances.
- Carolina has advanced to the national title game 27 times (including three of the last five) and has finished as the runner-up six times overall.
- UNC has been the No. 3 seed twice before, winning the first-ever NCAA women's soccer title in 1982 and advancing to the second round in 2015.
- Three current Tar Heels – Maycee Bell, Isabel Cox and Julia Dorsey – have been part of three College Cup teams and two runner-up finishes.
- UNC enters the NCAA Tournament with a 10-1-8 overall record after suffering its only loss of the season against Pitt in the first round of the ACC Tournament.
- Carolina finished the regular season (10-0-8) without a loss for the first time since 2004.
- Towson, which is making its first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance due to an automatic bid as the CAA champion, will arrive in Chapel Hill with a 15-2-2 record.
- This will be the first meeting between Carolina and Towson in program history.
- Isabel Cox has made 106 career appearances, the most among all active DI players. She's currently tied for sixth all-time in NCAA DI history and is one game shy of matching the UNC program record.
- Ally Sentnor was named the ACC Midfielder of the Year, the first Tar Heel to earn such honor since the league began designating positional awards in 2004.
- Sentnor and Avery Patterson were tabbed to the All-ACC First Team while Bell, Savy King and Sam Meza were selected to the All-ACC Second Team. King and Evelyn Shores garnered ACC All-Freshman Team praise.
- Carolina's stalwart defense has held 17 of its 19 opponents to 10 shots or less, nine of those to five or fewer and three to only one.
- UNC ranks seventh nationally, and first in the ACC, with its 20.3 shots per game.
- The Tar Heels checked in at No. 13 in both the latest United Soccer Coaches poll and NCAA RPI.
