December 14, 2023 | Women's Basketball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The North Carolina women's basketball team plays its final non-conference home game of the season on Friday, hosting Western Carolina for a 7 p.m. tipoff at Carmichael Arena.
Â
It's the annual Book Drive Game – bring a book suitable for kids ages 5 and younger and get a free general admission ticket for the game. It's also Ugly Sweater Night – fans are encouraged to wear holiday sweaters and the first 500 fans through the doors will get free UNC holiday sweater t-shirts.
The No. 25 Tar Heels are 6-4 overall heading into the game. Western Carolina is 2-8.
The game will air live on ACCNX. Watch here and listen to the radio broadcast here.

Heels vs. Catamounts
The Tar Heels and Catamounts are meeting for the 13th time, the first since 2019. UNC leads the series 11-1.
• The teams last met on Nov. 7, 2019, in Courtney Banghart's first game as the Carolina coach.
• Two current staff members – Assistant Director of Recruiting and Video Operations Jaelynn Murray and General Manager/Special Assistant to the Head Coach Liz Roberts – were players on that team. Roberts saw a minute of action in the victory. Murray was sideined by injury that season, but was on the bench.

• Through 10 games, Alyssa Ustby leads the Tar Heels in rebounding and assists. She's tied for the team lead in steals, is second in blocks and third in blocks.
• Maria Gakdeng is shooting .708 from the field, a percentage that would lead the ACC by a wide margin if she had the required five makes per game. (She has 4.6.)
• Six players on the roster have at least one 20-point game in a Carolina uniform. Deja Kelly has hit 20 points on 23 occasions, Alyssa Ustby five, and Lexi Donarski, Maria Gakdeng, Paulina Paris and Kayla McPherson once each.
