WBB Earns 60-Point Homecourt Win

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The North Carolina women's basketball team closed out the nonconference portion of its home schedule with a 96-36 win over Western Carolina Friday night at Carmichael, with four players scoring in double figures. Senior Alyssa Ustby tied her career high with 23 points as the Tar Heels shot a season-best 51.9 percent from the floor.
No. 25 UNC is now 7-4 heading into its final nonconference game of the season, a meeting with Oklahoma Tuesday night in Charlotte as part of the Jumpman Invitational.
The Tar Heels got 16 points on 6-8 shooting from sophomore Paulina Paris, who returned to the court after a two-game absence due to injury. Sophomore Indya Nivar came off the bench for 15 points, hitting seven of her eight attempts. Junior Maria Gakdeng added 10 points.
Carolina got another big return from redshirt sophomore Teonni Key, who scored seven points and grabbed a career-high 10 boards in her first action of the season.
The Tar Heels never trailed in earning their largest winning margin of the season. In addition to the season-best field goal percentage, UNC had season highs in assists (24) and steals (16) and tied its season high for blocks with seven. Carolina had season lows in turnovers (six) and fouls (four).
UNC outrebounded the Catamounts by 26, 50-24. After Key's 10, Ustby had nine and grad student Lexi Donarski had a season-best seven, one shy of her career high.
Ustby also led UNC in assists with six, tying her career high, and in steals with four.
Audrey Meyers led Western Carolina (2-9) with 13 points.
