Gymnastics Treks North For EAGL Quad Meet At New Hampshire
February 11, 2023 | Women's Gymnastics
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of North Carolina gymnastics team will trek north to Durham, New Hampshire, for an East Atlantic Gymnastics League quad meet on Sunday, Feb. 12, at 1 p.m. ET.
In addition to the Tar Heels and host New Hampshire, LIU and George Washington will make up the four-team lineup. The meet will be held at Lundholm Gymnasium on UNH's campus, the site of the 2023 EAGL Championships.
Carolina enters the weekend with a 6-3 overall record, most recently splitting a tri-meet with NC State and Western Michigan on Feb. 4. The team currently sits at No. 27 in the Road to Nationals ranking for the second-straight week, up from No. 33 in week three for its highest regular-season ranking this year.
Additionally, the Tar Heels are 1-0 in EAGL action after defeating the Wolfpack last month in the home opener. Carolina is the only team in the league that has at least three bar rotations of 49.200+ this season, led by UNC record holder Lali Dekanoidze with an impressive 9.975 done on two occasions.
The Tar Heels have won or shared 10 of 12 event titles between their three meets on Jan. 23, Jan. 28 and Feb. 4. UNC has 10 rotations of 49.000+ this season, the second-most in the EAGL.
UNC has three EAGL weekly award winners so far this season: Kaya Forbes (Feb. 1), Dekanoidze (Jan. 18) and Julia Knower (Jan. 18). That's tied for the second-most in the conference.
Facing George Washington once already this season, UNC topped the Buff & Blue, 196.325-195.350, for its highest team score of 2023. During that meet on Jan. 28, Knower earned the all-around title (39.350) after winning individual event titles on beam (9.850) and floor (9.950). Isabelle Schaefer also took the top spot on bars (9.900).
It's the first time this year Carolina will face both LIU and New Hampshire.
