Knower Wins Bars As Gymnastics Places Second At GWU Quad Meet

WASHINGTON, D.C. – With the meet's highest score on bars after a win from Julia Knower, the University of North Carolina gymnastics team placed second at the George Washington quad meet Friday night at the Charles E. Smith Center in Washington, DC.
The Tar Heels had a final team score of 194.075 behind GWU's winning mark of 195.875. UNC finished ahead of Yale (194.050) and Temple (193.975) to move to 11-4 on the year.
Knower highlighted the meet by winning bars with a score of 9.900, setting a new career best. The sophomore's score is now tied for fourth all-time in school history.
Rotation One – Floor
The Tar Heels opened the meet on floor with Bri Greenlow owning the team's highest score at 9.775. Also contributing to Carolina's total team score was Kate Greene (9.750), Hannah Nam (9.725), Amy Wozniak with a career-high 9.675 and Forbes (9.600).
Temple ended the rotation with the highest score amongst all competitors with a 49.300. George Washington had the second-best at 49.100 followed by Yale (48.925). UNC had its lowest score of the season on floor at 48.525.
Rotation Two – Vault
Lali Dekanoidze and Forbes both had scores of 9.850 to lead the way for the team, good enough to tie for second overall. Fink finished with a 9.800 for the second meet in a row to match her career high. Greene set a new season-best 9.775, which was also the same mark Knower received.
The Tar Heels produced a team score of 49.050 at the end of the rotation, its second-highest mark this season on vault. They were just behind the Colonials' tally of 49.100 and ahead of the Owls (48.775) and the Bulldogs (48.275).
Rotation Three – Bars
Knower paved the way during UNC's third rotation with a meet-winning score of 9.900, crushing her previous career best of 9.850 set on Jan. 9 during UNC's home opener. She is now tied for fourth all-time in program history on bars.
Dekanoidze, the current program record holder on the event, tallied a mark of 9.875 to tie for second overall. Fink continued her stellar meet with a 9.850 to match her career best for the third time this year. Isabelle Schaefer also notched a score of 9.850 while Elizabeth Culton rounded out UNC's scorers at 9.750.
UNC had the meet's highest team score on bars at 49.225, its third-best mark of the 2023 campaign. Its score was well ahead of GWU (49.175), Temple (48.800) and Yale (48.375).
Rotation Four – Beam
North Carolina struggled on beam during its final rotation. The team was led by Hallie Thompson's 9.700, while the Tar Heels also counted scores from Knower (9.625), Fink (9.450), Nam (9.350) and Taylor Schulze (9.150)
George Washington had the highest collective score on beam at 48.500, followed closely by Yale's 48.475. Despite its lowest mark of the season at 47.275, UNC still finished ahead of Temple's 47.100.
