Gymnastics Posts Meet-High Scores On All Events In Win At Pitt

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The University of North Carolina gymnastics team posted the highest score on each of the four rotations en route to a convincing 195.700-194.950 win over Pitt on Sunday afternoon at the Fitzgerald Field House in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Following the win, the Tar Heels improve to 12-4 overall on the year while remaining the only undefeated team in East Atlantic Gymnastics League action at 5-0. The Panthers fall to 9-10 (2-3).
Carolina won three of the four events as Lali Dekanoidze took home individual titles on both bars (9.925) and vault (9.875) while Julia Knower had the top score on floor (9.900).
Rotation One – Bars
Opening the meet on bars, Dekanoidze won the event with a score of 9.925. That marked her fifth score of 9.925+ and her fifth win on bars this season. Elizabeth Culton tied for third with a score of 9.825 while Gwen Fink (9.775), Knower (9.750) and Isabelle Schaefer (9.750) also scored for Carolina.
For the seventh meet in a row – ever since the season opener on Jan. 6 – the Tar Heels have posted the highest score of the competition on bars, as their score of 49.025 topped the Panthers' 48.825.
Rotation Two – Vault
Dekanoidze was quickly back on her winning ways, securing her second individual event title on vault with a score of 9.875, which was just shy of her career-high 9.900. Setting a new personal best for second place was Fink at 9.825 while Kaya Forbes tallied a 9.800 to tie for third. Kate Greene and Paige Prejean both scored 9.775s with Greene setting a season-high.
Once again posting a higher final tally than its host, Carolina out-scored Pitt, 49.050-48.850, on vault.
Rotation Three – Floor
Knower won her fifth floor title of the season after posting the best score of all competitors at 9.900. After matching her season-high 9.850, Bri Greenlow tied for second while Hannah Nam notched a 9.825 for her best of the year. Both Greene and Amy Wozniak had performances that received a 9.725, while Wozniak broke her previous career best of 9.675 set just two days prior. Forbes' 9.825 also contributed for UNC.
Carolina's collective score of 49.125 was its fifth mark of the season over the 49-threshold while Pitt totaled 48.975 on the event.
Rotation Four – Beam
Knower yet again led UNC's beam contingent with a team-high score of 9.800, good enough for second overall. Also scoring for the Tar Heels were Nam and Hallie Thompson with a pair of 9.750s, as well as Fink (9.625) and Taylor Schulze (9.575).
After struggling on beam in their last outing, the Tar Heels rebounded to end the meet at 48.500 on the apparatus. The Panthers checked in at 48.300.

After concluding its four-meet road stretch, Carolina returns home on Friday, Feb. 24, to host Temple at 7:30 p.m. ET inside Carmichael Arena. Admission is free and open to the public.
