WBB Gets Career-High From Kelly In Loss At Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The No. 14 North Carolina women's basketball team dropped its second consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference road game on Thursday, falling 75-67 at Syracuse despite a career-high 32 points from junior guard Deja Kelly.
The 14th-ranked Tar Heels are 17-7 (8-5 ACC) heading into Sunday's home game against Boston College. Tipoff is noon and the game will air on the ACC Network.
UNC got 14 points from junior Kennedy Todd-Williams. Redshirt freshman Teonni Key added eight points off the bench for her high so far in ACC play.
Destiny Adams, who made her fourth career start, led Carolina in rebounds with six.
The Orange, which improved to 16-9 (7-7 ACC), had two players hit 20 points. Dyaisha Fair, who was honored before the game for scoring her 1,000th career point, scored 23 points and handed out a game-high seven assists in playing all 40 minutes. Georgia Woolley added 20 points for Syracuse, which hit nine of its 20 three-point attempts.
UNC held its largest lead of the game early, up 10-3 four minutes in. Syracuse answered with a 8-0 run to grab the advantage. The game stayed close throughout the first half and the Tar Heels led 34-32 at the break. It marked the second game in a row that UNC has led at halftime but not pulled out the game.
Syracuse took over in the third quarter, outscoring UNC 31-14. (The 31 points by the Orange is the highest total by an opponent in ACC play this season.) SU made 80 percent of its shots, hitting 12 of 15 from the field including 4-5 shooting from three, to take a 15-point lead (63-48) into the fourth quarter.
UNC continued to chip away but couldn't get the margin into single digits until Kelly's jumper made it an eight-point margin that stood up for the final score.
Kelly's total, her second 30-point game as a Tar Heel, included four three-pointers and came on 13-25 shooting overall.
