Softball Falls To Liberty, 5-1

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Carolina softball team (11-20,1-5 ACC) dropped its midweek matchup with Liberty (17-10), 5-1, on Wednesday evening in Anderson Stadium.
Despite both teams tallying six hits, the Flames were able to take advantage of timely hitting, including a two-run home run in the seventh inning.
Carolina took the early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second, after a Carsyn Snead RBI single plated Skyler Brooks, who reached to open the inning on a Liberty error. It was Snead's second RBI of the season.
The Flames tied up the game in the top of the fifth, plating a run on one hit and a Tar Heel error, making it 1-1. Liberty then took the lead in the top of the sixth, scoring a pair of runs on two hits and an error to make it 3-1, before making it 5-1 in the seventh off a two-run home run.
Skyler Brooks had a team-best two hits in the game, going 2-of-3 at the plate.
Bailey McCachren, who started the game, pitched 4.1 innings, allowing just one run and three hits with five walks and a hit by pitch.
Talia Hannappel (1-1) took her first loss of the season in the circle, allowing four runs, two earned, and three hits in 1.2 innings.
Kenna Raye Dark blanked Liberty in the sole inning she pitched in the game.
