Brown's Season Debut Leads Great Day One At Raleigh Relays For Track & Field

Brown made her first appearance of the year for the Tar Heels and finished the women's 10,000 meters in 33:13.74, the second-best time in UNC outdoor history and best in nearly four decades. The only better time in the 10k in Carolina annals is 32:54.19 by Joan Nesbit in 1984. Fatima Alanis finished 25th in the 10k, while Ava Dobson was 27th in a personal-best time of 34:35.39.
Several other Tar Heels also came up big on Thursday, including a win in the women's javelin by Madison Wiltrout in her first appearance of the season at 56.01 meters. Senior Cash Rodriguez finished fourth in the javelin, with a personal-best performance of 50.09m.
Peyton Berryman had a personal-best pole vault of 3.70 meters, finishing eighth in the women's pole vault invitational.
Will Coogan had a personal-best time of 3:44.13 in the men's 1,500 meters. Meanwhile, Sully Shelton had a personal-best time and a heat win in his first career 3,000 meter steeplechase.
