Softball Shuts Out Syracuse 6-0 To Clinch Series Victory

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Carolina softball team (19-25, 8-9 ACC) clinched their third conference series victory of the season with a 6-0 shutout of Syracuse in Anderson Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Lilli Backes (11-12) threw her fourth complete game shutout of the season in, third in ACC play, allowing just two hits with five strikeouts in six innings of work.
Both Bri Stubbs and Carsyn Snead recorded a pair of hits in the game, while five different Tar Heels tallied an RBI.
Kiersten Licea hit the sole home run of the game, her seventh of the season, bringing her season RBI total to 23, just one shy of her career season best. Abby Settlemyre hit Carolina's second triple of the weekend and her second of the season.

The Tar Heels host Campbell Wednesday in Anderson Stadium at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcasted on ACC Network.

- Both Alex Brown and Settlemyre have each tallied at least one hit in each of the last eight games
- Settlemyre, who has reached base in each of the last 12 games, is hitting a team-best .500 in ACC play and has a .583 conference on-base percentage
- The Tar Heels drew five walks against the Orange, the team's most walks in an ACC game this season
- Skyler Brooks hit .714 in the series against Syracuse, tallying a team-best five hits
