CHARLOTTE, N.C.—Tar Heels set personal records in several throwing and distance events on Friday on the first day of the Charlotte Invitational at the Irwin Belk Track Complex.

Highlights of a successful first day in Charlotte:
• Skylar Bohlman started the afternoon's action for UNC with a personal best and second-place finish in the discus at 49.13m (161-02).
• Brynn Brown won the 1500m Invitational in a time of 4:20.07, a personal best in her season outdoor debut in the event.
• On the men's side, Marshall Williamson and Kyle Reinheimer both set personal bests in the 1500m Invitational. Williamson finished sixth in a time of 3:46.89, while Reinheimer was right behind him in seventh place in 3:47.21.
• Carlee Hansen and Taryn Parks led the Tar Heels with second- and fourth-place finishes, respectively, in the 800-meter run. Hansen finished in 2:07.50, while Parks' time was 2:08.72.
• Michael Spragley won the men's 800m in 1:52.00.
• Emma Vasen finished fourth in the women's hammer with a throw of 53.12m (174-03 feet).
• Spencer Williams led five Tar Heels with a seventh-place finish in the discus with a throw of 50.05m (164-02 feet).

The Tar Heels will wrap up competition at the Charlotte Invitational with a full day on Saturday. The Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Championships will be held in two weeks on May 11-13 in Raleigh, N.C.
