Hammer Throwers Star As Tar Heels Start Strong At Duke Invitational

DURHAM, N.C.—Jordan Fong and Troy Yearwood led the way as the University of North Carolina track and field teams posted a dominant performance on the first day of the Duke Invitational on Thursday at Morris Williams Stadium.
Yearwood won the men's hammer with a personal-best throw of 67.18 meters, while Fong was the top collegiate finisher in the women's hammer at 61.12 meters. Yearwood's throw was the fourth-best on UNC's all-time performers list.
James Joycey took third place in the men's hammer to give the Tar Heels two of the top three finishers in the event. Fong led freshman Gracie Bolick, who finished 10th with a personal-best 56.07 meters, and Emma Vasen, who was 21st, on the women's side.
The Duke Invitational will continue on Friday and conclude on Saturday.
