CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – No. 10 North Carolina men's lacrosse (7-4, 1-2) could not overcome third-ranked Virginia (8-2, 2-1) as it suffered a 19-12 loss Friday night at Dorrance Field.
How It Happened
- Griffin Gallagher struck first before Virginia scored six unanswered to hold a five-goal advantage at the end of the first quarter.
- A quick goal from Harry Wellford put the Tar Heels within four at the start of the second frame, but UVA outscored UNC 6-3 to lead 12-4 at the half.
- Virginia netted the first four but Carolina went on a 4-1 run to close out the third quarter, which featured Logan McGovern's second of the day.
- Lance Tillman had back-to-back goals in the fourth to mark a hat trick.
- James Matan found the back of the cage for a 3-0 UNC run, but it was not enough to overcome UVA.

- McGovern has tallied at least one point in 44 of his 46 career games and has notched a goal in every game this season.
- Andrew Tyeryar has 12 goals on the year to lead the Tar Heel midfield unit, and has also scored in six straight games.
