CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Three University of North Carolina women's lacrosse players earned All-America recognition by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association, as announced by the organization Thursday afternoon.
Receiving First Team All-America honors for the first time in her career is Emily Nalls while Alyssa Long and Brooklyn Walker-Welch were named to the third team.Â
Nalls, who was tabbed to the third team a year ago, established herself as one of the country's top defenders this season. The senior led UNC with 33 ground balls for the third year in a row, also owning a team-high and career-best 30 caused turnovers. Additionally, she was a top-25 honoree for the prestigious Tewaaraton Award.
Collecting the first IWLCA All-America honor of her career is sophomore Walker-Welch. The defender set a single-season career high with 29 ground balls, ranking second in that category as well as with 18 caused turnovers. Both Nalls and Walker-Welch anchored Carolina's defensive unit that limited opponents to a league-leading 8.42 goals per game, which also ranked sixth nationally.
Long, who also garnered the first All-America recognition of her career, ended her breakout junior season with eight multi-point games. The midfielder set single-season career highs in goals (19), assists (8), points (27) ground balls (9) and draw controls (34), recording at least one point in all but four contests. Â
