CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Head coach Jenny Levy, who has built the University of North Carolina women's lacrosse program into a national powerhouse, has agreed to terms for a four-year contract extension which will run through the 2027 season.
Â
"Jenny Levy cares deeply about student-athletes, her program, the sport of women's lacrosse and our University – and it shows each day,'' UNC Director of Athletics Bubba Cunningham said. "She has developed our women's lacrosse program with integrity, and she has won three national titles by continuing to instill hard work, passion and leadership into everyone she coaches. We are happy that she has agreed to this extension and will continue to coach, teach and mentor at Carolina."
Â
Entering her 29th season as the North Carolina head coach in 2024, Levy is undoubtedly among the best coaches in the sport's history.
Â
Her 411 career wins rank third all-time in NCAA Division I women's lacrosse history and second among active DI head coaches. She is the sixth head coach across all three divisions to ever reach the 400 threshold. She owns a remarkable 411-123 overall record, and her .770 win percentage ranks sixth among active DI head coaches.
Â
One of only five head coaches to win three or more, Levy has led the Tar Heels to three national championships (2013, 2016, 2022). UNC's three national titles and 13 Final Four appearances both rank third in the NCAA record book while her 42 NCAA Tournament wins is tied for second all-time by a coach.
Â
The winningest coach in Atlantic Coast Conference history, Levy has guided the Tar Heels to seven ACC championships, including six in a row from 2016-22 (no tournament held in 2020 due to COVID-19). She has amassed an overall record of 103-35 in league play and became the first coach to reach the century mark.
Â
"I am extremely honored to not only be the head women's lacrosse coach at North Carolina, but also to be given the trust and confidence to lead this program," said Levy. "Thank you to Chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz, Bubba Cunningham, the Board of Trustees and everyone within UNC Athletics for allowing me the opportunity to continue doing what has been the joy of a lifetime: Coaching incredible student-athletes and being part of the UNC community. My staff and I are more determined and motivated than ever to keep making our university, fans and alumni proud, and we're excited for the bright future ahead."
Â
Under Levy's tutelage, North Carolina posted a storybook season in 2022 which culminated in its seventh ACC title and third national title. It was also the first undefeated campaign in program history with a school record 22 wins.
Â
Following the undefeated national championship season, Levy was named the IWLCA National Coach of the Year for the third time in her career. She has also garnered seven ACC Coach of the Year honors.
Â
During her 28 seasons in Chapel Hill, Levy has produced 63 All-Americans, 10 Tewaaraton Award finalists, two Honda Award winners, 14 national player of the year winners, 11 ACC player of the year awardees and 116 All-ACC selections.
Â
Solidifying herself in the sport's history, Levy was officially inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 2021. She will also be honored at the USA Lacrosse Foundation Gala on June 7.
