CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The pieces of UNC's 2023-34 women's basketball schedule continue to fall into place with the confirmation of a December 10th matchup with Connecticut.
The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced Thursday that North Carolina will face off with UConn as part of the Basketball Hall of Fame Women's Showcase on Dec. 10 in Uncasville, Conn.
"Scheduling competitive opportunities against the best programs in the country remains the priority for us every season," said UNC coach Courtney Banghart, who is heading into her fifth season in Chapel Hill. "This coming season, we are excited to play UConn at the Hall of Fame Women's Showcase. This event will bring together many of the great traditions in women's basketball, shining a spotlight on the greatness of our game. We already look forward to December."
Additionally, Florida State will take on UCLA and South Carolina will play Utah as the event expands to six teams. All games will take place at Mohegan Sun Arena. Times and TV designations are still pending. Read the full release from the Hall of Fame here.
"We look forward to welcoming these six storied programs to Mohegan Sun Arena to take part in the Hall of Fame Women's Showcase," said Jennifer Rizzotti, president of the WNBA's Connecticut Sun. "We're honored to be able to offer world-class facilities to some of the best college women's basketball programs in the country and are thrilled they will be able to play in front of some of the most passionate basketball fans you'll encounter anywhere."
Tickets for the event will go on sale in September.
The game is the first meeting for UNC and UConn since the 2011-12 season. The Huskies hold a 7-5 advantage in the all-time series, which dates back to 1980, when the Tar Heels won 84-51 in a matchup in Chapel Hill.
Carolina finished the 2022-23 season with a 22-11 record, climbing as high as sixth in the national rankings and earning wins over six ranked teams, including two in the top five. The Tar Heels return seven letterwinners from that squad, including first-team All-Atlantic Coast along with a five-member freshman class ranked ninth nationally and three transfers who together have been ranked as the nation's second-best transfer class.
UNC previously announced a matchup with Oklahoma on Dec. 19 in Charlotte as part of the second Jumpman Invitational.
