2023 Marks Historic Season For Women's Tennis

2023 marked the most successful season in North Carolina women's tennis history. The Tar Heels won the program's first national championship, placed two doubles pairs in the NCAA doubles championship match, won a program-record 35 matches and compiled a perfect 18-0 record at home.

Season Highlights:
- 2023 National Champions.
- Advanced to the Final Four for the sixth time in program history.
- Made its 24th appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
- UNC was ranked as the No. 1 seed in the 2023 NCAA tournament for the third-straight season.
- The Tar Heels won their seventh ITA Indoor national team championship in 2023.
- North Carolina set a program record with 35 wins in a season.
- Brian Kalbas became the 13th coach in UNC history to win a national championship.
- Fiona Crawley and Carson Tanguilig won the 2023 Doubles Championship.
- Four Tar Heels were named to the ITA All-American team.
- Five Tar Heels were named All-ACC.
Individual Highlights:
- Freshman Reese Brantmeier finished the season with a 22-3 record in singles play and was named to the NCAA Championship All-Tournament Team.
- Fiona Crawley led all division one players in singles victories (43) in 2023. After the 2023 season, Crawley has tallied 121 singles victories while at UNC. She is now in sole possession of sixth place all-time in UNC history in singles wins.
- Abbey Forbes finished the season with a 26-6 record in doubles play and earned an at-large bid to the 2023 NCAA singles Championship.
- Sophia Patel was named captain of the national championship tennis squad.
- Elizabeth Scotty won her fourth ITA Indoor National Championship this past season. Scotty was also named to the 2023 NCAA Championship Team.
- Carson Tanguilig was named to the NCAA Championship All-Tournament Team in 2023. Tanguilig also won the clinching point to give Carolina a 4-1 win in the 2023 National Championship match over rival NC State.
- Reilly Tran compiled an 11-1 record at No. 6 singles this season and posted a 20-2 record in dual matches in 2023. Tran was also named to the NCAA Championship All-Tournament Team.
- Anika Yarlagadda went a perfect 9-0 versus ACC opponents while compiling an 18-1 record in dual matches this season.
- Fiona Crawley and Carson Tanguilig received a wild card bid to play in the U.S. Open after winning the NCAA Doubles Championship.
- Seven Tar Heels were listed in the ITA's final rankings.
- Reese Brantmeier, Fiona Crawley, Carson Tanguilig and Elizabeth Scotty were named ITA All-Americans.
- Reese Brantmeier and Fiona Crawley were named to the USTA Collegiate Summer team.
- Anika Yarlagadda, Carson Tanguilig, Elizabeth Scotty, Reese Brantmeier and Fiona Crawley were named All-ACC.
- Fiona Crawley was named the ACC Player of the Year.
- Anika Yarlagadda was named the ITA National Most Improved Senior.
- Brian Kalbas was named the Wilson/ITA Coach of the Year.
- Fiona Crawley was named the ITA National Player of the Year.
